I 'Ringenes Herre: Eventyret om Ringen' er hobbitten Frodo Sækker en lidt sky, fredselskende lille person, der arver en mystisk guldring af sin onkel Bilbo.
Det viser sig, at ringen besidder magiske evner og den, der har den i sin besiddelse kan regere verden. Dét ved den onde troldmand Saruman, der ikke viger tilbage for nogen eller noget i sin besættelse af at besidde Ringen.
En gruppe vise mænd beslutter, at det eneste håb er at destruere ringen. Frodo og hans lille gruppe venner begiver sig derfor nu ud på deres farlige færd. Menneskehedens frihed ligger således i deres små hænder.
'Ringenes Herre: Eventyret om Ringen' er den første i Peter Jacksons trilogi baseret på J.R.R. Tolkiens værk og blev en kæmpesucces hos både anmeldere og publikum.
Filmen, der anses som en af de bedste fantasy-værker nogensinde, vises i den forlængede udgave (extended edition), som aldrig tidligere har haft biografpremiere i Danmark.
Efterfølgerne De To Tårne og Kongen vender tilbage kan også ses i extended editions.

Since last time I watched the extended version, it's become a two-movies night deal. As the first of the trilogy, it's an excellent experience.
An unsuspecting Hobbit named Frodo (Elijah Wood), are left the belongings of his uncle Bilbo (Although he might not be his uncle, but a close relative). Among these many artifacts, are a ring Bilbo got from the creature Gollum of his "There and Back again" journey. At first, Frodo has to bring it to the Elves of Rivendell. Then he musters the courage in front of a council, to complete the quest to destroy the ring in fires of Mount Doom in the land of Mordor.
A fellosship of 9 i formed. two men (Aragon, Boromir), an Elf (Legolas), A Dwaft (Gimli), a Wizard (Gandalf) and four hobiits, and ventures out the lands the middel earth.
"The Fellowship of the Ring" is a high fantasy story set in the land of middle earth. Most of the movie is actually shot on location in New Zealand. The movie gives to ample time, though many wide-shot to see the beautiful locations - and are reminded, how tiny the ring is.
The Ring comes with great power and are corrupting some of the characters, although the bearer Frode is reasonably unscathed in the movie. The Ring is also the macguffin, and gives the characters (and the viewer) the usual fantasy theme of hope. The Elf Galadriel, whom provices Frodo with a glimpse into the furture that could be, underscores the theme. She explains, what might happen, if he doesn't succeed in his quest. A quest, to bring the Ring to Mount Doom.
The story continues, in the following two movies: "the Two Towers" and "the Return of the King"
