Det er den tidlige dom fra pressevisninger af Hollywood-ikonets nyeste film Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, som bliver beskrevet som alt fra "forbløffende" og "vanvittig" til "sommerens actionfilm".

Der virker til generelt at være en konsensus om, at filmen er overraksende dialogdrevet i store dele for så at gå fuldstændig action-bananas de sidste 45 minutter.

Bl.a. skriver anmelderen Dave Baldwin: "Det er bedst at tage blodtryksmedicin, før man ser 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning', for når vanviddet først begynder, stopper det ikke. Det er exceptionelt underholdende med hæsblæsende stunts, der får dig til at gispe."

Begivenhederne i forgængeren Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, hvor Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) og IMF-holdet kæmper for at forhindre den hensynsløse lejemorder Gabriel (Esai Morales) i at få kontrol over den verdensødelæggende, løbske kunstige intelligens "The Entity".

Udover Tom Cruise og Esai Morales inkluderer rollelisten også de tilbagevendende Mission: Impossible-stjerner Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Angela Bassett, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby og Pom Klementieff.

Den 8. film i spion-og-action-franchisen har meget på spil - både for filmstudiet bag og det amerikanske biografmarked.

I november 2024 rapporterede The Hollywood Reporter, at projektet har haft en lang og vanskelig produktion med et budget, der nærmer sig hele 400 millioner dollars, bl.a. pga. forsinkelser forårsaget af Hollywood-strejkerne i 2023.

Det gør filmen til en af de dyreste nogensinde.

Efter gårsdagens pressepremiere tager 'M:I 8' videre til filmfestivalen i Cannes, hvor den vises uden for konkurrence den 14. maj. Både Tom Cruise samt manuskriptforfatter og instruktør Christopher McQuarrie vil være til stede.

Det spektakulære verdenspremiere-event markerer Tom Cruises tredje gang på den franske filmfestival – første gang var med Ron Howards romantiske drama Far and Away i 1992 og anden gang med Top Gun: Maverick i 2022.
